The name Tamarindo may sound familiar to you in the San Clemente and Coastal Orange County area. Pedro and Sara Resendiz were made famous by Guy Fieri doing a segment on their Cal-Mex cuisine food truck of the same name.

Chef Pedro is known for his homemade and use of local ingredients and has a huge following online for their Tamarindo Food Truck. Recently they opened a restaurant located at 110 S El Camino Real, San Clemente CA 92672.

I was fortunate to visit this new restaurant right after it opened. The menu is amazing. They have a tasty selection of street-inspired tacos like their Al Pastor with achiote chicken, grilled onion, grilled pineapple, tomatillo salsa and cilantro. I also like the Pibil with Yucatan pork, pickled red onions, queso cotija and serrano salsa.

As a huge ceviche fan, I had both the Pescado that had wild fish, avocado and lime and I really liked the camarones con crema with shrimp, chipolte, crema, tomato, red onion and cilantro.

I like the open layout of Tamarindo with the doors that open to patio seating at the street and the bright and modern decor. We will be back soon!

Here is the Guy Fieri segment on the Tamarindo Food Truck. (You will need to fast forward to 29:38)
